In addition to year-round programs such as Curbside Recycling and Drop-off Recycling Centers, you can find many other ways to recycle specialized items in Mahoning County. It's always best to call ahead for updated information before preparing items to be recycled.

Household Batteries

Mahoning County residents may now recycle their household batteries at any of the branches of the Public Libraries of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Each Library branch now has a specially marked barrel or other container that will accept the following types of batteries:
  • AA, AAA, C and D batteries
  • 9-volt (rectangular) batteries
  • Button batteries (from hearing aids, watches, etc.)
  • Ni-Cad batteries from your household electronics (Note: Lead-acid, lithium and fluid-type batteries are not accepted and can only be brought to our Household Hazardous Waste Collection.)
You can also pick up a convenient battery collection bag at the library, or call the Green Team at 303-740-2060 to request one. Or simply use your own bag and bring it to your nearest library location when it's full.

Special Recycling Drives

The District offers townships, cities, and villages, opportunities to request special recycling drive funds to implement events for appliances, electronics, and tires. These events may be one or multiple days in length and occur throughout the year. Events dates are posted on our calendar when confirmed.
