Trauma, ACEs Information, and Trauma Informed Care (TIC):
● Trauma
- Defined - “Individual trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being.”
● Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs
- ACEs are specific adverse experiences that happen during childhood. These experiences are connected with altered development and negative health outcomes across the lifespan.

● Trauma Informed Care, or TIC
- TIC is having a Trauma Informed Approach: “The Four R’s”:
- Realizes: Trauma Informed Care realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery
- Recognizes: Trauma informed care recognizes signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others
- Responds: Trauma Informed Care responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices
- Resists: Trauma Informed Care resists re-traumatizing individuals

- Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress
